Garden Club Holds Tour Of Homes

Last week, an old Christmas tradition returned in Covington.

For the first time since 2019, the Satsuki Garden Club held a Candlelight Home Tour in Covington on December 7th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.

Reba Wilson, co-chair of the Tour of Homes committee, said the event went smoothly, even after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Because planning for tours starts months in advance, there are always unexpected issues that can change plans," Wilson said. "Fortunately, this year's tour has not been affected by events requiring changes from previous tours."

The House Tour campaign, which is held twice a year, was created in 1998. In previous years, the number of participants was about 400-600 people.

While the Garden Club is still calculating its final results for 2023, Wilson noted that everyone seems happy.

"Based on the early reports from the guides and the praise from the tour participants, it would be fair to call the tour a success," Wilson said.

Typically six to seven homes are included in the tour each year. It is noteworthy that this year the tour included six houses.

Wilson acknowledged that the selection process is different for each household.

One way to do this is for homeowners to donate their homes through Garden Club members and for other members to contact the homeowners and ask them to adopt their homes.

Each year, the Garden Club strives to include homes that are grouped into a robust group of historic and new homes to "reflect a diversity of architectural styles and sizes."

This year was no different.

House #1, built in 2019, is located at 2182 East Street. It is a two-story house owned by Kenny and Linda Folsom.

The second home on the tour is located at 2176 East Street and is owned by owners Scott and Kari Willis. The mansion was built in 2006.

The next stop on the tour was the home of Allen and Deirdre Williams at 2164 East Street. The house was built in 2020.

The Mark and Cathy Mallard home, located at 2111 Church Street, was in Station #4, a Craftsman-style home built in 1896.

Stop No. 5 K.B. Lee and J. It was Gary Brown's house. It is located at 2145 Church Street and was built in 1895.

The last home on the tour was 6179 Crestview Drive, owned by Don and Tony Conner. The mansion was built in December 2022.

This man with Down syndrome approached the royal guard, and the soldier's reaction was shocking.
