• Buffalo Grove Garden Club: Tuesday, Nov. 14, 6:45 p.m.: “Decorating for Fall,” presented by florist Mary Cantrell at Lake Zurich Flower Shop, Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove. Cantrell will use a variety of flowers and other materials to create stunning fall compositions; After the presentation, the line-up will be sent home with some lucky winners. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.

• Lake Zurich Garden Club: Tuesday, Nov. 7, 6:30 p.m.: “Backyard Birds and Bird Feeding,” presented by professional naturalist David Brooks at the Ela Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. Learn how to use bird feeders and food plants to attract different species of birds to your garden. This program includes an overview of common native birds and some migratory birds that occur in spring and fall. Brooks gave a lecture on the natural history of Illinois and the verdant landscape of the Chicago area. Guests are warmly welcome. • Geneva Garden Club: Tuesday, Nov. 7, 11 a.m. at the Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center, 3507 Kaneville Road, Geneva. • Lombard Garden Club, Friday, Nov. 10: 433 E St. “A History of Trees in America,” presented by author, teacher and speaker Cindy Crosby at the Charles Lombard Community Building. Street, Lombardy. Crosby has a master's degree in natural resources, is a master gardener and teaches in the Master Naturalist program. Admission is free and the public is welcome. Visit www.lombardgardenclub.org.

• Northbrook Garden Club: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the United Methodist Church, 1190 Western Ave., Northbrook. From jumping worms to Asian carp, invasive aliens have arrived in Illinois. Insects, fish, plants and animals not native to these areas can destroy the beauty of natural landscapes, threaten the future of forests and grasslands, destroy native plants and wildlife, and cost companies and governments millions of dollars in property management. • Schaumburg Community Garden Club: Wednesday, Nov. 8, 7 p.m.: “Our Climate Crisis,” presented by Kent Taylor, at the Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Visit the club online at www.schaumburggardenclub.org.

• Mount Prospect Garden Club: Tuesday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. “Gardening with Succulents,” hosted by Veronica Porter in the Farley Room, Mount Prospect Village Hall. Succulents have become very popular in recent years. Veronica Porter walks you through indoor succulents and explains why they make the best houseplants. Porter, former president of the Illinois Veteran Farmers Coalition and member of Homegrown by Heroes, runs Ask Aunt V in downtown Naperville.

Guests are warmly welcome. Social time begins at 9:30 a.m., business meetings at 10:00 a.m.

• Arlington Heights Garden Club: Monday, Nov. 27, 7 p.m.: “New Invaders: Jumpworms, Stink Bugs, Viburnum Leaf Bugs and More,” presented by Nanette Kalscheur at St. John's Episcopal Church. Simon, 717 W Kirchoff Road, Arlington Heights. The social time begins at 6:30 p.m. Kalscheur has a master's degree in natural resources and environmental sciences from the University of Illinois, is retired from the Department of Agriculture and is a crop and pesticide specialist. He will talk about these invaders, their ecological impact and how to prevent their spread. www.ahgardenclub.com.

• Mount Prospect Garden Club: Tuesday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. “Gardening with Succulents,” hosted by Veronica Porter in the Farley Room, Mount Prospect Village Hall.
