COLONY — Floor and Decor, a hardwood flooring retailer, will occupy the remainder of the ground floor formerly occupied by Sears at Colonie Center, which has been vacant since the store closed in 2017.
After a six-year hiatus, the spacious store at the south end of the mall is back in customer service and offers a wide range of tile, wood, laminate, vinyl and natural stone flooring, as well as decor and accessories. as a free design service. . The store, which adjoins Whole Foods, will be 57,204 square feet, according to a floor plan posted on the developer's website.
The development, which will mark the Floor and Decor retailer's fifth store in New York, comes as the Atlanta-based retailer looks to expand its national footprint. Founded in 2000, the company has 178 warehouse-style stores and five design studios in 35 states, according to its website. The brand hopes to expand its store base to 500 countries over the next decade.
The Colonie Center location will be the retailer's first in the Capital Region. The closest floor and decor is in West Hartford, Connecticut.
There is no information on the planned opening date. The section of the mall that currently houses Whole Foods Market is owned by Sears spin-off Seritage Growth Properties. Colonie Center management referred questions about the new business to Seritage, which did not immediately respond to questions.
New tenants have been slow to come on the scene, with rumors of a potential replacement swirling for several years. In 2019, outdoor retailer REI revisited the site, but it's unclear why those plans fell through.
Flooring and decor aren't the only changes made to the mall. Former tenants Franceska and Sheshi Vendor have been closed forever. But women's clothing store Daily Thread is preparing to open in early March, Colonie Center CEO Jeff Law said.
