You know you're doing something right when you're mentioned in the same vein as Wilt Chamberlain when it comes to on-field production, such as Oklahoma City Thunder quarterback Josh Gaddy. On Sunday, JD became the second player in NBA history to hit a hat trick in two games at Madison Square Garden, the Thunder said. Chamberlain was the first player to do so. JD had 24 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds in Oklahoma City's 145-135 win over the Knicks.
This is not the first time JD has achieved a triple double in history. Last season, JD became the youngest player in NBA history to score a hat trick when he scored against the Dallas Mavericks at the age of 19 years and 84 days . Although it's only his second season, JD has the third-highest five-time streak in franchise history. Only Kevin Durant (7) and Russell Westbrook (138) have more Thunder points.
In addition to Giddy, Shay Gilgeous-Alexander had a big game for the Thunder in New York, finishing with 37 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Along with Giddy and Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder have one of the best young starting lineups in the league.
"It's great to play with him," JD said of Giljus-Alexander after his win in New York. "Our chemistry will continue to grow and hopefully we'll be a hell of a defense for a long time."
Don't look now, but the rookie Thunder is starting to compete. They are 6-7 to 13 games per season. If the season ended today, they would be in the Western Conference Playoff Championship. But the season will not end today. So if the Thunder want to be in that conversation when the time comes, they'll need to continue their promising start to the playoffs for a few more months. The development of their young guards certainly brings optimism.
