There are approximately 70,000 different soil types in the world, of which red soil is unique. With a neutral to acidic pH range, this soil is deficient in nitrogen, humus, phosphoric acid, magnesium and lime, but relatively rich in potassium. The color is due to the high iron content. Below are some of the plants that grow on this land.

Bougainvillea

Are you looking for a colorful, low-maintenance ground cover plant for your home? Well, bougainvillea can be the perfect solution for growing in red soil. This plant displays beautiful color almost all year round. However, they grow quickly and can outgrow if left unchecked. It grows well in full sun. In very hot weather, day shade can be useful.

However, make sure that there is no hard layer or impermeable layers in the top 90cm of soil, that it has good water holding capacity and that the water table is at least 6.5m below the surface. It is grown in full sun to ripen fruit.
