A Walk In The Park: Community Garden, Walking Path And More At Hunter Park In Lansing

Lansing. Hunter Park is a 14-acre site located east of Lansing at 1400 E. Kalamazoo Street.

The park features the Hunter Park Garden House, a project started by the Allen Neighborhood Center to grow food, provide agricultural and horticultural education to residents, and create habitat for pollinators.

There are greenhouses and a community garden where locals harvest fresh food from the soil.

In addition to the Garden House, Hunter Park has a good sized tarmac road that follows the perimeter of the park. As you walk along the trail, you'll encounter a new sculpture, The Mother Tree, by artist Evan Euler.

Clifford Street has two car parks, a large covered pavilion, an open field with a bowling net and two playgrounds.

Hunter Park's pool is closed for the season, so don't even think about swimming. Find a list of pools open during the summer at https://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/news/local/2023/06/21/lansing-swimming-pools-parks-lakes-recreation/70294494007/.

A Walk in the Park is an ongoing series by Country Journal photographer Nick King that aims to explore a Lansing-area park in one hour. If you have suggestions for parks I should visit, send them to nking@lsj.com.
