Townsend - Have you ever heard of mini greens, but wondered why all the fuss? Then Judith Taylor of Seeds2Plate has what you need.
Taylor will host "Microgreens Practical and Personal" on Wednesday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Townsend Public Library. There, the gardener will explore the benefits of growing and eating vegetables.
"Microgreens are very easy to grow and are some of the most nutritious things to add to your diet," Taylor said. "They're packed with minerals and vitamins, and they're really cheap if you grow them yourself."
"The good thing is that you don't need any special equipment and you can grow them all year round," he added.
Students will learn how to plant small spaces and create their own take-out mini-garden.
Taylor, who has been gardening in Massachusetts for over 25 years, graduated from UMass Green School and attended Seed Savers Exchange Seed School. He has hands-on experience growing all types of perennials, fruits and vegetables, and landscaping.
Taylor's Seeds2Plate, soon to be held at Dunstable, is about "gardening for food, gardening for beauty, respecting mother nature and the sheer joy of spending time outdoors," says Taylor.
A second workshop, titled “Gardening Adventures - Spring Planting Tips and Tricks,” will be held Wednesday, March 29 at 7 p.m. in the Sibley Room at the Groton Public Library. The "how to" lesson covers planning and planting a garden, including tips and tricks for making your garden a success.
"Growing your own food in your own backyard is a rewarding and delicious way to spend the summer," Taylor said. "It's also a great way to cut down on grocery bills and provide food for your family during tough times."
Both labs are free and open to the public.
