Coconut Creek, Florida. For five decades, Coconut Creek Women's Club members have come together for community events, which serve as community projects to raise money for local causes.

Their latest project, the March 4 Butterfly Garden Tour, is an annual fundraiser for high school students living in Coconut Creek.

Participants will visit 12 "secret" gardens, farms and gardens along Coconut Creek.

"There's something special here for everyone," club president Laura McDermott told Mainland.

The event is the latest for the city's oldest community organization, a group that supports and volunteers in everything from youth events like police scouts and flag football to the annual butterfly festival. , the Festival of Lights and Santa's Breakfast. For kids.

“We try to organize fun events to involve the community,” Mainland said.

Kishun Nicholas is co-chair of the Butterfly Garden Tour and a three-year member of the club, which has about 80 members.

"I joined because I'm a single mom, I work, and I wanted to do something for myself and benefit the community," she said.

Nicholas said the Butterfly Garden tour will be a self-guided tour of different landscapes.

From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the tour begins at the Coconut Creek Government Center, where participants pick up a map of the park, then drive around town to view it and finally meet at Veteran's Park and Hometown Market.

"Each stop is unique - it's a collection of different ideas," says Nicholas.

About 70 people have signed up so far and organizers hope 250 people will join the tour.

"This is an important event," Nikolai said. "Coconut Creek is butterfly capital and our event is about butterfly gardens and sustainability."
