Unique Run Coming To Botanical Garden This Weekend

The new race will be timed in Gaston County and participants will be able to complete the 5-mile course as many times as they want.

The race, supported by the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens and organized by the Human Energy Movement, will take place on Saturday, January 13 at the Botanical Gardens.

“So instead of a fixed distance like a 5k or 10k or a marathon, it's time-based,” organizer Adam Bratton said. "So we have a course. It's a 5K race where you can run as much as you can, or as many times as you want, within a certain period of time."

The race will be divided into three-hour, six-hour and 10-hour categories, and runners can participate in any of these categories. Bratton said the goal is to complete as many laps as possible in that time.

“The good thing is that you can stop, you know, at the turn of the circle, you can stop, sit down, rest, rest, you know, change your shoes, whatever you have to do,” he said. Announce. "So it's really fun. You can be as competitive as you want. If you want to run the whole time and see how far you can go in that time, you can do that. Or you can also take your time. And maybe try to get to a certain distance."

“It's a really open event, where different people with very different abilities can come and run their race, which is really cool,” he said.

The event will take place on the trails at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens.

“This will once again be a beautiful trail through the trail system and along the banks of the Catawba River,” Bratton said. “On this day, all participants enter the park for free. The idea is that if your family and friends want to join you in exploring the park after the race, this is also the perfect way to do so.

The start time of events has changed.

He said: “So the start time for the 10-hour race will be at 7:00, then the six-hour race will start at 08:30 and the three-hour race at 10:00.” . “And that's what we did because it brought them closer together. So you know the finishing time is between 13:00 and 17:00.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in the three-hour, six-hour and 10-hour races. In addition to these prizes, competitors will receive prizes based on the distances they cover.

“Whoever ran the half marathon will get a prize, then whoever ran the marathon will get another prize, then whoever ran 40 miles will get another prize, then whoever ran 50 miles will get another prize,” he said. “So we developed this. As a progressive award, you know, Anyone, even if they don't win the overall prize, has the opportunity to collect a bunch of prizes along the way, no matter how advanced they are." He travels. All together: a day.”
