Garden Street Construction Begins. New Sidewalks, Bikeway, And Reconstruction
  • Construction on Garden Street in Boise in the spring and summer of 2024
  • CDHA has begun a project to redesign the Garden Street sidewalks and Albion Street Bikeways to the Greenbelt.

If you plan to use Garden Street in the near future, you will need to make some detours by spring 2024. The Island County Highway District begins paving on Garden Street in Boise from Emerald to Albion.

The Ada County Highway District plans to repair and build sidewalks along Garden Street and a bike path between Albion and Greenbelt.

"We've been looking forward to it, but since we really need sidewalks, the question is how are they going to do it," said Claude Begari.

Claude Begari lives on Garden Street and has lived here for over 40 years. Not everyone is a fan of sidewalks, he says.

"I know a lot of people walk their dogs and I'm sure they do," she said. "That's probably the biggest issue here: the safety of kids getting off buses."

According to the project, curbs and ditches were installed on the sidewalks on both sides of the street. As for the bike path, more lanes and signs will be installed between Albion and Greenbelt. Improved pedestrian and bicycle signals at the Franklin intersection.

"I was stuck for about an hour and they said, 'Hey, we can move, but I thought I'd like to go over what they're doing,'" laughs Begari.

Construction began on Monday and is expected to be completed between spring and summer of 2024.

While some residents are excited about the sidewalks, others are worried about the work.

The resident is very worried about having to cut down the trees in his garden for construction.
