Who Could Become Gardens Next Villain And Take KnicksCavs To Another Level?

The NBA's biggest hitters are getting attention in the postseason.

Draymond Green was ejected from Thursday night's pivotal Game 3 against the Kings -- after sitting out Game 2 -- for punching Domantas Sabinis in the chest and attacking the Sacramento crowd like a professional fighter.

Russell Westbrook called another of their fans "Westbrick."

And Memphis' Dylan Brooks is proving he's a worthy rival to LeBron James, covering a mediocre Game 2 and dishing out post-game taunts directed at the NBA's all-time leading scorer.

When asked about James' driving, Brock said, "I don't care. He's old." "He's not at the level he was when he won championships in Cleveland and Miami. I want to see it. It's going to be tougher, but I'm playing with what I have... "You can't take me one-on-one," I told him.

“I killed the bear. I will not respect anyone until they come and pay 40.

In the Kicks-Caves series, a villain could be born in Game 3 Friday night at Madison Square Garden.

If the Knicks make the postseason without a new contender, it will be a historic run.

Two years ago, Trae Young became New York's most hated player, leading the Falcons to a first-round series win when he staggered through the crowd and caught an arrow at center court. Michael Jordan and Reggie Miller lead the list of all-time Knicks villains, while Larry Bird, Alonzo Moring, John Hawlick, Baltimore's Earl Monroe and others found a level of angst once seen only in playoff battles.

The Cavaliers have no shortage of candidates to join the roster.

Donovan Mitchell is a very obvious and unexpected target.

The star guard, who turned Cleveland into a contender in his first season with the team, will trade jerseys before Game 3 if he can. The Westchester native — and Mets fan — wanted to come home and play for the Knicks, which cost him dearly last season. Neither player on either side has much motivation to put on a show under the bright lights. No player has had more great moments on either side than Michel, who scored 38 points in Game 1 and has four career playoff games with at least 44 points.

Jarrett Allen won't feel the venom from the city where his Nets career began when he hit Julius Randle in the final minute of a loss to the Knicks.

Randle, who was stiffed on the dunk attempt, thought the foul was "a little unnecessary."

"Usually when you make plays like that, you look at their body, not at them," Randle said. "But it's all right. It's irrelevant. We'll go back to the garden and see him there."

Kicks fans will get to see Darius Garland, who overshadowed his 32-point performance in Game 2, and what could be the next incarnation of Tim Hardaway play for the Heat.

The Garden will see Isaac Okoron for the first time after complaining about Jalen Brunson's "bumps" while running the offense. Not quite to the point where Cedric Maxwell called Bernard King a "b-teach" during the 1984 playoffs, but his generation is still young. And it doesn't take long for a new villain to emerge.

Even on Saturday night, the garden is buzzing.

The Rangers return home for Game 3 this weekend after beating the Devils 5-1 last night, 2-0 in the first round. Chris Kreider had two goals and Patrick Kane added a goal and two assists.

New Jersey led 1-0 in the second half, but the lead lasted until the third inning as the Prudential Center filled with "Let's Go Rangers" chants. After Uladzimir Tarasenko tied the score early in the second game, Kreider scored twice to extend the Patriots' streak to four. Kane, a former Conn Schmidt winner, scored the Rangers' first goal of the postseason in the third period.

Igor Shesterkin hit 49 of 51 shots and missed just one goal for the second straight game. Adam Fox has six assists.

The Islanders will host the Hurricanes in their first game at UBS Arena the same night, before the Devils try to overcome a 3-0 deficit.

Pure loss

James Harden was drafted. Joel Embiid had his second best performance of the season. And the net still can't stop stretching.

Brooklyn's shaky season is now over after last night's 102-97 loss to the 76ers in Game 3 of their first-round series at the Bercy Center.

The Nets are 0-7 in their ninth straight playoff game in Game 4 at Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.

If Embiid had tried to hit Nick Claxton below the belt in the first quarter, the night could have been very different.

Turns out, the release is late.

Harden fell on a low shot by Royce O'Neal in the final seconds of the third quarter. Claxton was ejected after picking up his second technical foul for taunting Embiid — Claxton picked up his first technical foul as he passed Embiid and started the dunk — giving the Nets an 87-81 lead with 8:48 left. The Nets effectively guarded Embiid (14 points), but they couldn't stop Tyrese Maxey, who scored 8 straight points and Philly took the lead with 45 seconds left.

Embiid then blocked Spencer Dinwiddie's game-tying layup in the final seconds, putting Brooklyn in a hole it seemed impossible to climb out of.

Auckland's tenure as a professional sports city is coming to an end.

The A's have signed a binding agreement to buy 49 acres near the Las Vegas Strip, where the soon-to-be-relocated franchise will build a $1.5 billion, 35,000-seat stadium that could open next year and open by 2027.

The team's lease at the Oakland Coliseum expires in 2024, and team president Dave Kaval told the New York Times that the A's could temporarily move to Triple-A Las Vegas Park until the new stadium is completed.

The A's -- founded in Philadelphia and relocated to Kansas City in 1968 before settling in Oakland -- will become the first MLB team to relocate since the Montreal Expos became the Washington Nationals (2004-05).

After years of fruitless talks about building a new A's ballpark in the Bay Area, Oakland has turned its ire toward a third professional team to leave the city in recent years.

This year in 2020, the Raiders left Oakland for the second time and moved to the new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, about a mile away from the proposed site of the A's future ballpark.

This year in 2019, the Golden State Warriors crossed the Bay Bridge to play at San Francisco's new Chase Center, ending nearly five decades in Oakland.

Now another great franchise - four World Series titles in Oakland with Reggie and Vida, Catfish and Eck, Ricky and the Bash Brothers - has returned to its longtime home.

"I am deeply disappointed that the A's have not chosen to negotiate with the City of Oakland in a way that respects the relationship between the fans, the city and the team as true partners," Oakland Mayor Shane Tao said. “However, it's clear to me that the A's have no interest in staying in Oakland and will use this process to try to get a better deal out of Las Vegas. I have no interest in continuing to play - our fans and residents deserve better.

The A's currently have the worst record in baseball (3-16) and a $60 million payroll — about $26 million less than what the Mets pay for two pizzas. Last season, only the A's averaged fewer than 10,000 fans per home game.
