The appearance of Moon Garden immediately attracts attention. Even the untrained eye will want to talk about the use of color in the first moments. It turns out that the movie was also shot on old 35mm film using old lenses. This creates an attractive look that sets it apart from other films available this year. It also tells you that we're about to get into a fantasy, even if we start with what looks like a family drama.
Everything changes when Emma (Haven Lee Harris) tries to escape her parents' fights and falls apart. He soon finds himself in a coma and interprets what is happening around his body through the perspective of the child on the other side of the curtain. Here Moon Garden is fully transformed into the steamy, wandering adventures of Alice in Wonderland , while Emma struggles to come to her senses. It only has a radio, which complicates comparisons to Silent Hill .
As she is a little girl, she must quickly draw the line between friend and foe as she runs away from the Beast, a babbling monster with long, jagged claws that devours her tears. The monster, Zuba, is played by Morgana Ignis, and what a treat Ignes is to watch. The physical structure and care of this animal is simply amazing. Ignis takes what we most often associate with teeth and nails and paints a complete story. I sincerely hope this isn't the last time we get to see Ignis bring monsters to life because Tooth is probably my favorite character in the movie.

Director Ryan Stevens Harris has created a beautiful world in which I wish I could spend more time. The plot often feels secondary as we get caught up in the environment, dangers, and quirky characters. Emma's radio mirrors what is happening in her hospital room in the real world and often influences what is going on in her subconscious mind. While her father talks about the boys he plans to bring home when they grow up, we meet the groom (Timothy Lee DePriest). For us guys, it reminds us of Panic Groom! In the disco era and perfectly matching his father's description. It looks like a sloppy copy of an early, early 20th century music video that may have featured The Used.

The world of Moon Garden and the pictures it displays will make the audience talk. It's so captivating that it's hard to think of things that don't work in the movie. This movie is really about travel, not the friends we travel with. There are many comparisons to Mad God or Labyrinth . Personally, I wanted to see The Fall (2006) again. Note that these films are only remembered for themes or stylistic choices. Still, it's nice to see an independent film take off and land somewhere between the stars
