Flowertown Garden Club Celebrates 175 Years Of Christmas

The Flower Town Garden Club's Christmas Door Decorating Contest returns this year with the theme 'Celebrating 175 Christmases in Summerville'. Entries will be judged on creativity, balance and theme, while decorations will be judged on uniqueness and originality. Prizes will be awarded in two categories - members and non-members - with first, second and third place winners in each category.

Carrie Lutes won first place in the contestant category. Ms. design features lotus magnolia, pine and green cedar with burgundy bow ties. In keeping with Summerville's 175th anniversary, Mrs. Lutes also includes a framed envelope and a letter to the Pine Forest Inn stationery. After purchasing a home in President Square, formerly the historic Pine Forest Hotel, Mrs. Lutes becomes interested in the history of the famous hotel. He found an 1895 stamp envelope on eBay and bought it. This historic stationery is incorporated into the design and perfectly reflects the theme of Summerville's 175 years of Christmas.

In the non-member categories, Bailey Sherrier's home takes first place. Miss Sherier is new to Summerville and entered the competition to become involved in the community. Inspired by her daughters, Mrs. Sherrier set the stage for her design work with pink doors adorned with bright shades of green and her garden's beautiful camellias and a green Christmas tree. She used the same shade of green for her pretty pear wreath to contrast the soft pink bows. Two wooden terracotta topiaries near the door also decorated with pink ribbons and flowers.

All other entries are beautifully designed and it's hard to pick a winner. The grand prize winner in the competitive category was Meredith Budin who placed second while Paige Bailey placed third. In the non-member category, Jodi Gotter came second and Stephanie Mitcham third.
