The Iowa State University Extension and Experience 2023 Garden Calendar, "Garden Lore," is now available for gardeners and nature lovers alike.
Created by Iowa State professor and horticulturist Cindy Haynes and ISU Extension and Extension consumer horticulturist Aaron Steele, the calendar aims to separate horticultural reality from horticultural fantasy. It contains important gardening tips and extension resource information and is available through the Iowa State University Extension Store.
“I've been working on the Iowa State University Garden Extension Calendar for a number of years, and it's a topic I've wanted to cover for a long time,” explained Hines. "I find this idea of a gardening tradition both fascinating and frustrating. Centering your calendar around this theme is a great way to educate the public about common misconceptions or myths about gardening.
Added Steele: "We answer a lot of gardening questions and hear these misconceptions quite often. We always try to provide research-based information, even if only a little bit, and while some of these practices work for some people, sometimes they are just plain wrong. ." ".
In addition to dispelling common gardening myths, the calendar also shows dates for certain tasks, making it a handy tool for gardeners.
"One of the features of this calendar is the garden tips throughout the calendar," Steele said. "Working on this year's calendar, I had a lot of fun going through the proposals, finding new things to add, and making sure everything was in the right place."
Steele concluded: "Calendars are usually a great Christmas gift, but this calendar has the added benefit of making a great garden journal for the gardener who wants to keep up-to-date or get tips on what to do in the garden all year long. year. " .
